What's New in the Dock
A swap triggers only when the difference between the depleted battery and the highest-charged one exceeds 10% and that highest battery sits above 90%, timed to the aircraft landing, before a scheduled operation starts, or an hour ahead of an automated mission. Dock 4 holds up to three batteries across four compartments and charges two from separate sets simultaneously, 15% to 95% in 27 minutes, with wireless charging available as a backup path only. The RTK base station moves out of the dock itself and onto the separate DJI O4 Ground Station, a deliberate architecture change extending transmission range to 40km rather than a dropped feature.
Meet the Matrice 5TD
Maximum flight time runs to 59 minutes, with 48 minutes as the practical operating figure, and FlyTo speed reaches 21 m/s, covering a target 3km away in under 3 minutes. Four imaging modules sit on the gimbal, including an 11x optical, 176x hybrid zoom super telephoto with an upgraded RYYB sensor that reads a licence plate from 400 metres away, and a thermal camera doubling the Matrice 4TD's native resolution to 1280×1024. Payload capacity sits at 450g, enough for the AL2 Spotlight, AS2 Speaker or AP1 Parachute DJI builds for this aircraft.
Night Performance
Three changes compound to lift low-light capability over the Matrice 4TD: an upgraded wide camera sensor and a 30%-higher-light-intake RYYB telephoto sensor, a 16x more powerful NPU merging frames at up to 20Hz for 4K night video, and a noise reduction algorithm pushing maximum night-mode ISO to 1,638,400, 2 to 4 times the 4TD's ceiling. The wide and telephoto cameras also fire together in a single shutter action rather than one view at a time, useful for a night patrol capturing context and detail from the same pass.
Safety Systems and Certification
Six full-colour obstacle-sensing cameras run as standard on the Matrice 5TD, built into the airframe rather than sold as a mounted accessory that costs flight time, and the aircraft stops automatically before reaching a power line. The UK and EU airframe ships with the AP1 parachute pre-installed, validated through more than 45 deployment tests, weighing 107g and cutting terminal descent velocity to 6 m/s or below. Dock 4 and the Matrice 5TD carry an EU-Type Examination Certificate for Class C5 and C6 UAS operation, with the Flight Termination System built into the airframe as standard rather than sold as a separate module.
FlightHub 2 Copilot and Onboard AI
Onboard detection expands from 3 algorithms to 17 target types across this launch, covering people and vehicles filterable by colour, smoke and fire, animals including cows, horses and sheep, and a wider vehicle set from sedans and buses to forklifts and tankers. FlightHub 2's new Wayline Copilot and Workflow Copilot generate flight routes and automated workflows from a typed prompt, running safety checks on altitude, speed, wayline validity and hardware compatibility before anything flies, and Drone as First Responder (DFR) automated dispatch now integrates through FH Sync and OpenAPI 2.0 for a business running its own CAD or SCADA system alongside DJI's platform.
What This Means in the Field
The 25-second swap and 45-second turnaround matter most on a high-tempo deployment, repeat perimeter patrol, first-responder dispatch or corridor inspection, where DJI's own 27-minute charge cycle on Dock 3 was the limiting factor between sorties. The Matrice 5TD's longer flight time, further-reaching camera system and standard parachute suit power line, pipeline and public safety work specifically, the same use case DJI has filed the aircraft against. A fleet already running Dock 3 and the Matrice 4TD isn't obsolete, the two platforms aren't interchangeable and Dock 3 remains a confirmed, in-stock option for a site that doesn't need the faster turnaround.

No. Dock 4 pairs exclusively with the Matrice 5TD, the same way Dock 3 pairs exclusively with the Matrice 4D and 4TD.
Not as part of this launch. Dock 3 remains a separate, currently available platform for a site that doesn't need battery-swap turnaround.
