As we progress into the summer months, we know our community will be preparing for the droning season ahead. 

The sunnier season typically presents the best time of year to get out flying, as you can capture more desirable footage and imagery and it's a much easier process setting up and packing away your kit. Not to mention, your drone will be much safer in a more dry and warm climate.

The DJI Air 3

The DJI Air 3 has proven to please most people, with its impressive list of features and reliability. It has a 46-minute battery life, a responsive touchscreen-equipped controller, and an omnidirectional array of obstacle avoidance sensors that make flight breezy and anxiety-free. Having said this, the most appealing aspect of the Air 3 amongst customers is its two-camera setup.

The auto-stabilised, gimbal-mounted camera pod contains two 48-MP cameras, one with a wide-angle lens and one with a medium telephoto lens. The former offers a similar field of view to most drone cameras, the latter allows users to condense their framing, to get a closer view of distant objects and compress them against background and foreground objects for a more cinematic look.

Despite all of the pros that come with the DJI Air 3, due to the UK drone laws, you are much more restricted with where you can fly compared to other DJI models. Like all drones weighing above 250 grams, it can’t be flown closer than 50 meters, or 164 feet, to people or over crowds. It also needs to be kept at least 150 meters, or 500 feet, away from residential, recreational, commercial and industrial sites.

DJI Mini 4 Pro

The best ultra-light drone and upgrade from the Mini 2 SE, is the DJI Mini 4 Pro. 

The Mini 4 Pro employs the same 1/1.3" 48-MP sensor as its predecessor but has levelled up its image-processing software. It matches the Mini 3 Pro’s 4K/60fps performance, but can also capture slow motion 4K at 100fps and record in 10-bit D-Log M for greater postproduction color grading freedom. That said, its photos and video look fine straight from the camera, and the night mode addition vastly improves the low-light video quality.

As well as the above, the obstacle avoidance system now points sensors in every direction, increasing control accuracy and reducing the likelihood of crashing.
