DJI Mic VS DJI Mic 2
The Upgraded DJI Mic
DJI is of course known as the leading manufacturer and innovator in the world of drones, but they also offer other fantastic tools for photographers and content creators. The DJI Mic has been very popular as a portable wireless microphone, and it’s now received a long-awaited upgrade. DJI’s wireless mic was already loaded with features and perfectly capable of producing quality audio recordings, but the DJI Mic 2 is sure to delight vloggers, podcasters, and filmmakers.
As well as being a technical upgrade, the DJI Mic 2 comes in a beautifully styled new charging case. There’s additional security with a robust locking latch to reduce the risk of damage when dropped, and the visual appeal is stunning! The new design is available in two colours and it’s hard to choose between the sharp, tech-appeal of Shadow Black for a more tech look and the elegant Pearl White.
Lets Compare...
Once you start to compare the specs of the DJI Mic 2 with the original DJI Mic, there are plenty of improvements and enhancements to make the upgrade worthwhile. Simplified usability and control-improved connectivity make this a must-have piece of kit for today’s content creators.
The Mic 2 introduces a bigger 1.1-inch OLED display, upgrading the Mic's 0.95-inch screen. This may seem a small change but it really makes a difference when you’re out in the field. The new physical precision dial for easy monitoring and fine-tuning of audio settings is another welcome improvement, offering precise adjustments of parameters like gain, volume, brightness, and more. The hot shoe mount, previously an adaptor, is now built into the receiver’s design. The highly praised magnetic clip-on design of the original DJI Mic remains, enabling users to quickly and securely attach the device to their clothing.
The Mic 2 really sets itself apart from the original DJI wireless microphone when it comes to connectivity. It maintains the impressive 250-meter range - making it versatile and practical for a wide range of applications - but adds flexibility with dual compatibility for Lightning and USB-C on smartphones, high-quality digital audio playback, and crucially, direct Bluetooth connectivity. A 3.5mm TRS cable connection that supports automatic power synchronisation will be of great value to camera users.
So the Mic 2 over-delivers in terms of major feature and design upgrades, but it’s also the little things that make the upgrade worthwhile. White noise cancelling, a stronger windscreen, and an improved transmitter layout make a real difference when it comes to quality and the demands of capturing content under pressure or against a deadline. In testing, we found the physical control wheel and larger touchscreen further small enhancements that make this portable mic the best in class today.
