The M3E remains capable for straightforward mapping and inspection. The Matrice 4E adds integrated RTK, a laser rangefinder, and AI-assisted operation for £860 more. If you're buying new rather than adding to an existing M3E fleet, that's the comparison worth making.
Camera System
Wide camera: 4/3 CMOS, 20MP, 3.3μm pixels, 24mm equivalent, with a mechanical shutter that prevents rolling shutter distortion at mapping speed. Supports 0.7-second interval shooting.
Telephoto camera: 1/2-inch CMOS, 12MP, 162mm equivalent, 56x hybrid zoom, for inspecting detail from a safe standoff distance.
Survey Performance
- Cover 2km² in a single flight at speeds up to 15 m/s.
- Achieve centimetre-level accuracy with the optional RTK Module and TimeSync 2.0, giving GCP-free accuracy of roughly 2x GSD, comparable to a Phantom 4 RTK or Matrice 300 with P1.
- Fly a full day on four batteries, with the 100W hub charging one battery in around 70 minutes.
Flight Safety and Transmission
Six wide-angle lenses provide omnidirectional obstacle sensing with no blind spots, feeding APAS 5.0 for automatic rerouting. DJI AirSense receives ADS-B signals from nearby manned aircraft. O3 Enterprise transmission reaches roughly 9-15km in low interference conditions, dropping to 1.5-3km where interference is strong.
Software
DJI Pilot 2 runs on the included RC Pro Enterprise, supporting waypoint, mapping, oblique, and linear mission planning.
DJI FlightHub 2 adds live streaming, live 2D mapping, panorama and media upload, and cloud mission planning.
DJI Terra processes M3E imagery into 2D and 3D reconstructions. A 3-month licence is included, activated when the aircraft is activated.

What's the difference between the M3E and M3T?
The 3E carries a 4/3 CMOS wide camera built for mapping. The 3T swaps in a thermal camera for inspection and public safety. DJI does not recommend the 3T for mapping work, as its wide camera lacks the sensor and shutter needed for reliable accuracy.
Is the DJI Terra licence permanent?
No, it's a 3-month licence activated when the aircraft is activated. Beyond that you'd need a full Terra licence, from £1,600.
