DJI Zenmuse L2
A LiDAR and RGB payload built for fast, accurate point cloud capture, combining GNSS positioning with DJI's high-precision IMU system for 4cm vertical and 5cm horizontal accuracy. Ready to use the moment it's switched on, no warm-up wait like its predecessor required.
Accuracy and Coverage
- Achieve 4cm vertical and 5cm horizontal accuracy, combining GNSS positioning with DJI's high-precision IMU system.
- Cover 2.5km² in a single flight, useful for larger sites where multiple LiDAR passes would otherwise be needed.
- Start scanning immediately on power-up, unlike the Zenmuse L1, which needed a 5-minute warm-up before use.
- Detect targets up to 250m away at 10% reflectivity, extending to 450m at 50% reflectivity, with a normal operating altitude up to 120m.
Detail and Penetration
The L2 resolves smaller objects and produces more realistic models than its predecessor, generating a DEM with a spot size of just 4cm at 100m altitude, roughly a sixth the spot size of the L1. That finer resolution means better penetration through vegetation and cleaner ground readings on sites with dense canopy cover, useful for forestry, terrain mapping, and construction sites with mixed ground cover.
One-Click Processing
Generate a DEM and 3D point cloud model in standard format with a single click, and check point cloud quality directly in DJI Terra without needing a separate inspection step. This keeps the workflow from capture to deliverable inside one software ecosystem rather than exporting between tools, which matters most on time-sensitive projects where a same-day turnaround is expected.
Real-Time Colourisation
RGB imagery captures alongside the LiDAR pass, colourising the point cloud in real time rather than requiring a separate photogrammetry flight. This produces a true-colour 3D model directly usable for client presentations or visual inspection, not just a raw measurement dataset.
Compatibility and Mounting
The L2 works with the Matrice 400, Matrice 350 RTK, and Matrice 300 RTK (Matrice 300 RTK requires the DJI RC Plus controller). On the Matrice 350 or 300 RTK, it can only be mounted on the single downward gimbal connector. On the Matrice 400, it can mount on either the single downward connector or any port of the dual downward connector, though mapping accuracy drops if another payload shares the dual connector at the same time.
If you're specifying a new Matrice 400 setup and want the newer, longer-range option instead, the DJI Zenmuse L3 extends detection to 950m and adds a second 100MP camera.

Does the L2 work with the Matrice 400?
Yes. Support was added via a firmware update, and DJI officially lists the L2 as compatible with the Matrice 400 alongside the Matrice 350 RTK and Matrice 300 RTK. Make sure the aircraft, controller, and payload firmware are all updated to the latest version before first use.
What's the difference between the L2 and L3?
The L3 extends range to 950m, improves accuracy to 2-4cm, and adds a second 100MP camera alongside a wider range of scanning modes. Both now work with the Matrice 400, so the choice comes down to range and budget rather than aircraft compatibility.
Does mounting position affect accuracy on the Matrice 400?
Yes. The L2 can mount on the single downward connector or any port of the dual connector, but if a second payload shares the dual connector at the same time, mapping accuracy is reduced. Our team can advise on the best configuration for your setup.
Do I need DJI Terra to use the L2's data?
DJI Terra is the intended processing pipeline, generating DEMs and 3D point cloud models with one click. Terra is sold separately if you don't already hold a licence.
