DJI Zenmuse S1 (Searchlight)
DJI's first spotlight built for multi-payload drone platforms, using Laser Excited Phosphor (LEP) technology to deliver strong, focused illumination with efficient power draw. Built for search and rescue, public safety, and after-dark inspection work.
Why the S1
- Light up to 500m away in Both On mode, giving a genuinely usable range for search and rescue or perimeter work.
- Get brighter output on the Matrice 400 specifically, 40 lux at 100m versus 35 lux on the Matrice 300/350 RTK, since the M400 supplies more power to the payload.
- Draw as little as 17W in High Beam mode, keeping the power cost low enough that flight time isn't meaningfully affected.
- Switch between four lighting modes depending on the task, from wide-area search to a focused, long-range beam.
- Sync automatically with a camera payload, keeping the spotlight aimed at whatever the camera is tracking.
Four Lighting Modes
- Low Beam - 15° field of view, illuminating up to 150m, matched to a camera at 5x zoom or above. Suited to short-distance search and inspection.
- High Beam - a narrow 4° field of view using LEP technology for enhanced penetration, reaching 300m, matched to 15x zoom or above.
- Both On - combines low and high beam for the brightest central illuminance and the longest effective range, up to 500m.
- Strobe - high-frequency strobing to draw attention from a target individual, useful for signalling in a rescue or public safety scenario.

Because the Matrice 400 supplies more power to the payload than the Matrice 300/350 RTK, the S1's output differs slightly by platform:

Built-In Safety Features
Automatic dimming and thermal protection keep the plastic shell below 50°C at all times, safe to handle immediately after a flight. Overcurrent and power protection guard the internal components against damage during extended use.
Weatherproof and Built for the Field
Rated IP54 for dust and light rain resistance, with an operating range of -20°C to 40°C. Mounts on any gimbal connector, single downward, dual downward, or single upward, giving flexibility for how it's paired with other payloads.

Does the S1 work with the Matrice 400?
Yes. It's compatible with the Matrice 400, Matrice 350 RTK, and Matrice 300 RTK.
Why is the brightness different depending on the aircraft?
The Matrice 400 supplies more power to the payload than the Matrice 300/350 RTK, so Both On and Low Beam modes reach higher lux output on the M400 specifically. High Beam mode brightness stays the same across all three aircraft.
Can the S1 be used alongside a camera payload at the same time?
Yes. It syncs automatically with a camera's view when paired with compatible payloads like the H30 Series, keeping the beam aimed at the same subject the camera is tracking.
How much does the S1 affect flight time?
Power draw is modest, as low as 17W in High Beam mode, so the impact on overall flight time is minor compared to carrying a heavier camera payload.
