DJI Neo 2: The Follow-Me Camera Drone That Flies Itself

The DJI Neo 2 weighs 151g and launches from the palm of your hand, no controller required. Full omnidirectional obstacle sensing with forward-facing LiDAR, 4K/100fps video, and ActiveTrack up to 12 m/s make it a self-flying camera that follows you while you ride, run, or walk, at the lowest entry price in DJI's range.

At 151g the Neo 2 sits in the A1 category, which allows flight closer to people than heavier drones. Combined with the full propeller guards fitted as standard and omnidirectional obstacle sensing, that makes it one of the safest drones to fly around people and the most forgiving for a first-time pilot. Since it has a camera and weighs over 100g, it does require registration before outdoor flight (covered below).

Fly Without a Controller

The Neo 2 launches directly from your palm with a single button press, no remote or phone setup required. The new Return-to-Palm feature recognises your hand, flies back, and lands securely, closing the loop on genuinely controller-free flight.

Gesture control adjusts the drone's position and distance with one or both hands, raising, lowering, and moving it without touching a control surface. Voice control issues flight commands through your phone or Bluetooth earphones, so you can redirect the drone mid-run or mid-ride without stopping.

Tracking and Camera

Every capability below translates into a practical shot a beginner can capture:

  • Track subjects with ActiveTrack at up to 12 m/s in open areas, following running, cycling, and other activity smoothly and steadily
  • Record 4K video at up to 100fps, capturing sharp, detailed footage with slow-motion flexibility in post
  • Shoot 2.7K true vertical video, producing social-ready content sharper than a cropped horizontal frame
  • Frame automatically with SelfieShot, switching between waist-up, full-body, and long views hands-free, without a tripod
  • Stabilise footage with a 2-axis mechanical gimbal, smoothing out movement that ruins handheld shots
  • Store up to 49GB internally, saving around 105 minutes of 4K/60fps footage without a memory card
  • Transfer at up to 80 MB/s over Wi-Fi to the DJI Fly app, moving footage to a phone without a cable

Safe Enough for a First Flight

The Neo 2 is DJI's most compact drone with full omnidirectional obstacle sensing. A monocular vision system, forward-facing LiDAR, and downward infrared sensing detect obstacles in real time, and full-coverage propeller guards act as a physical backup where sensing cannot.

Level 5 wind resistance holds a stable hover in winds up to 10.7 m/s, keeping footage steady in the breezy outdoor conditions common across the UK. The combination of guards, sensing, and wind stability is what makes the Neo 2 one of the few drones genuinely suited to flying around family and children, with adult supervision.

Add Immersive FPV Flight

Paired with the DJI Goggles N3, RC Motion 3, and the Digital Transceiver, the Neo 2 becomes a first-person-view aircraft supporting motion control and Easy ACRO flips and rolls. The Motion Fly More Combo includes all of this in one package.

The same transceiver extends video transmission to 10km when used with the DJI RC-N3 controller, and adds traditional control-stick operation for anyone wanting manual camera control.

Which Package Should You Buy?

The Neo 2 Drone Only covers palm control and app flying at the lowest price, suiting anyone wanting the pure hands-free experience with a single battery.

The Neo 2 Fly More Combo adds two extra batteries and a charging hub. With a real-world flight time closer to 13 to 15 minutes per battery when tracking, the three-battery combo is the configuration most owners should buy.

The Neo 2 Motion Fly More Combo adds the goggles, motion controller, and transceiver for immersive FPV flight, the package for anyone who wants to fly the drone as well as be filmed by it.

Accessories and Spares

  • Extend flight time with the Neo 2 Intelligent Flight Battery, adding around 19 minutes per charge
  • Recharge efficiently with the Two-Way Charging Hub, which fully charges three batteries with the DJI 65W Portable Charger
  • Add low-latency transmission with the Digital Transceiver, for extended range and manual control
  • Replace worn blades with Neo 2 Propellers
  • Cover accidental damage with DJI Care Refresh 1-Year or 2-Year, including crashes, water damage, and flyaways

From 1 January 2026, UK rules require both a Flyer ID and an Operator ID to fly any drone weighing 100g or more that has a camera. At 151g with a camera, the Neo 2 falls into this category, so you will need both before flying outdoors. The Flyer ID is free, earned by passing the CAA's online theory test and valid for five years; the Operator ID is a low-cost annual registration.

The sub-250g weight still carries an advantage: it places the Neo 2 in the A1 category, permitting flight closer to people than heavier drones allow, which, combined with the propeller guards and obstacle sensing, is why the Neo 2 suits family and everyday use. Confirm current requirements against the CAA's Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Service before flying, as rules continue to change.

How the Neo 2 Compares

The Neo 2 is a self-flying follow-me camera, built for hands-free tracking, selfie content, and family use rather than manual photography. Against the original Neo, it adds omnidirectional obstacle sensing, a 2-axis gimbal, 4K/100fps, and 50% faster tracking, fixing the first generation's main limitations.

Buyers wanting a larger sensor and manual control should look at the DJI Flip for a bigger sensor and longer flight time, the Lito series for a traditional beginner camera drone, or the Mini 5 Pro for flagship image quality. The Neo 2 wins decisively on simplicity, safety around people, and price.

Protect Your Neo 2 With Drone Safe Repair Refresh

Repair Refresh is our in-house protection plan, an alternative to DJI Care Refresh handled directly by our own team in Chichester. A manufacturer's warranty covers faults; it does not cover the crashes, water damage, and flyaways that account for most real-world drone damage. Repair Refresh closes that gap, without sending your Neo 2 away to DJI.

  • Covers accidental damage that a standard warranty does not
  • Handled directly by our own engineers in Chichester, not routed through the manufacturer
  • Available on the Neo 2 and across the DJI range at the point of purchase
  • Speak to our team to compare Repair Refresh against DJI Care Refresh and find the right cover for you

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a controller to fly the Neo 2?

No. The Neo 2 launches from your palm and can be flown by gesture, voice, or the DJI Fly app on your phone. A controller, goggles, and motion controller are available in the Motion Fly More Combo for those who want immersive FPV flight.

Do I need a licence to fly the DJI Neo 2 in the UK?

Yes. Since 1 January 2026, any camera drone weighing 100g or more requires both a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. At 151g the Neo 2 needs both before you fly outdoors. The Flyer ID is free via the CAA's online test; the Operator ID is a low-cost annual registration. Its sub-250g weight still allows flight closer to people under the A1 category.

Is the Neo 2 safe to fly around children?

It is among the safest consumer drones for this, with full-coverage propeller guards and omnidirectional obstacle sensing. Adult supervision is still recommended.

How long does the Neo 2 fly on one battery?

Up to 19 minutes under DJI's test conditions, though expect closer to 13 to 15 minutes in real use with tracking active. This is why the three-battery Fly More Combo is the package most owners should buy.

What is the difference between the Fly More Combo and the Motion Fly More Combo?

The Fly More Combo adds extra batteries and a charging hub for longer sessions. The Motion Fly More Combo adds the DJI Goggles N3, RC Motion 3, and transceiver for immersive first-person-view flight.

Can the Neo 2 record vertical video for social media?

Yes. It records 2.7K true vertical video, which is sharper than cropping a horizontal 4K frame and ready to share directly to social platforms.

Does it come with a warranty?

Yes. All new, sealed DJI products from Drone Safe Store carry a 24-month warranty. For accidental damage cover, add DJI Care Refresh or our own Drone Safe Repair Refresh, handled directly by our Chichester team.
